Alton, IL (KTRS)  Ameren Illinois is reaching out to help keep low income residents cool this summer.

On Wednesday, Ameren donated sixty energy efficient air conditioners those in need in Madison County through its Ameren Cares program. This included veterans and the elderly.

Cindy Roper of East Alton was one those grateful recipients. “I’m so happy and delighted, you have no idea. ”

“I have an old air xonditioner that we don’t like to turn on because all it does is eat the electric and it doesn’t really blow out cold, it blows out more like warm air.” added Roper.

Seventy-eight-year-old Naomi Bradshaw of Alton, says she is thrilled to receive an air conditioner. “Heaven sent. Just Heavenly sent. That’s all I can say.”

Ameren Illinois will donate a total of 500 air conditioners throughout the state.

Ameren officials also advise that anyone in need of utility assistance should contact Ameren.
