BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – The Belleville School Board has approved purchasing Google Chromebooks for second-graders and younger.
District 118 students in third through eighth grades have had the laptops. The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/1l69Miy ) the school board approved Chromebook purchases for younger students. There will be one Chromebook for each of six kindergarten centers.
Second-grade teacher Wendy Brewer told the board the technology ensures “every child gets instruction right where they need it.” Tracy Gray is assistant superintendent of curriculum. She says the Chromebooks will also be available to special-needs students.
Funding will come from the federal Title I grant to help low-income students, the federal special education grant program, and a gift from the Karch Foundation.
