BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Scott Air Force Base and local leaders in St. Clair County have agreed to a new 25-year deal for joint use of MidAmerica Airport.
According to the Belleville News-Democrat , St. Clair County Board members agreed to the new deal on Monday. The southwest Illinois base and the county signed a 50-year deal in 1991. But board Chairman Mike Kern said a number of things have changed since then. They include changes in security operations.
The new agreement could allow the Air Force unlimited use of MidAmerica’s runway at no cost in exchange for the use of services from the base.
MidAmerica is located next to the base in Mascoutah, about 25 miles east of St. Louis. The airport has limited commercial service and has struggled financially.
