BELLEVILLE, IL (KTRS) Three inmates of the Madison County jail in Belleville, IL, are being treated for a drug overdose … from an inmate who authorities say smuggled in opioids inside a body cavity. Madison County sheriff’s deputies say three female inmates were being held Wednesday in a temporary holding cell when they noticed the three were suffering from what they call narcotic intoxication. They were taken to a local hospital where they were treated for suspected opioid overdoses. They were treated and released and are now back in jail.
The Madison County Sheriff launched an investigation that determined the drugs were not distributed to the general jail population. One of the inmates in the temporary holding cell, 25-year-old Michelle Bushue of the 3600 block of Indiana Avenue, has been charged in the incident.
