Ferguson, MO (KTRS) Ferguson’s Independent Monitor is gathering public feedback to help in the process of overseeing the city’s consent degree with the Department of Justice.
On Wednesday night, community members were given one on one time with the team during a community meeting. Clark Ervin who is leading the team, says public input is extremely important to this effort.
“The eyes of the nation are on Ferguson I have said, so there’s huge public interest in this monitorship in ensuring that there is reform with the police department and municipal court system and I and all of the team members are honored to be a part of this engagement.” said Ervin.
Ferguson resident Angelique Kidd says she hopes the Independent Monitor is sincere in ensuring the implementation of the consent decree.
“I don’t want to see a lot of paper pushing. I don’t want to see a lot of empty headlines and titles. I’d like for them to take it seriously and I’d like to see constitutional policing.” said Kidd.
Ferguson resident Atefa Young, says she welcomes this opportunity and believes there has been progress in the past two years.
“I think they have done a remarkable job at making changes because the things that need to be changed are systemic and there not things that can change overnight, but I do believe a fair amount of effort is going into doing the right thing,making the corrections.” added Young.
The Independent Monitoring Team plans to host community meetings every six weeks.
