COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) – A man whose conviction in a Columbia sports editor’s death was overturned after he served nearly a decade in prison has a new documentary series that begins with the story of another Missouri man convicted of murder.
The Daily Journal Online reports (http://j.mp/2bndLrn ) that “Unlocking the Truth” on MTV follows Ryan Ferguson and Eva Nagao as they examine cases they believe involved wrongful convictions. The first case airs Wednesday and is about Michael Politte, who’s serving a life sentence for the murder of his mother in 1998.
Ferguson was sentenced to 40 years for the 2001 killing of Kent Heitholt, a Columbia sports editor. Ferguson denied any involvement and was released in 2013 after an appeals court panel ruled he didn’t receive a fair trial because the prosecutor withheld evidence.
