( KTRS ) More than 88,000 Ameren customers are without electricity after fast-moving thunderstorms brought rain and high winds.
Meteorologists believe wind gusts may have exceeded 70 mph in some areas.
The storm Wednesday afternoon knocked out power to 111,000 homes and businesses, most in the St. Louis area. An additional 72,800 of Ameren’s customers in Illinois lost service. At least 30 trees were reportedly toppled at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in south St. Louis County.
Crews continue to work through the night, there was no immediate word about how quickly the electrical service will be restored.
