It’s a familiar tune for the St. Louis Cardinals: Brayan Pena to the DL. Pena was placed on the 15-disabled list again with left knee inflammation. It’s the same knee that was operated on in the spring, and caused Pena to miss the first 75 games of the season.
Alberto Rosario has been called up from Triple-A Memphis to replace Pena on the 25-man roster. Rosario, 29, has hit .281 in 39 games this year for Memphis. He will be making his major league debut.
Eric Fryer, who was designated for assignment by the Cardinals last week, and was claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, drove in three against his former team last night.
