JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens’ campaign says it has no relationship with the treasurer of a political action committee that’s behind attack ads, even though the man made calls at a campaign event.
LG PAC treasurer Hank Monsees told The Associated Press Monday that Greitens’ campaign didn’t ask him to start the LG PAC, which has aired ads against another GOP candidate, John Brunner. Monsees attended a Greitens event in May and Greitens’ campaign manager, Austin Chambers, said Monsees made about 10 calls that day.
Chambers said Greitens hasn’t spoken to Monsees since the May event.
Brunner, former Navy SEAL officer Greitens, former House speaker Catherine Hanaway and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder will face off Aug. 2 to earn the Republican nomination.
