(KTRS) – The St. Louis Metropolitan Taxicab Commission is set to hear rules concerning bicycle taxis.
Some of the changes officials could consider including posting fares on pedicabs and performing background checks using fingerprints. The proposal would call for limiting predicab fares to $2 per block with an extra charge of $1 for a third person. The Post-Dispatch reports other changes could include compelling the cyclists to carry additional insurance, using headlights and taillights, and getting maintenance checks performed by bike mechanics.
The bicycle taxis do the majority of their business during big events like Cardinals games and holiday celebrations.
