East St. Louis, IL (KTRS) The East St. Louis city manager who got the job after a failed mayoral re-election bid is out of a job.
The City Council members voted Monday to fire Alvin Parks as the city struggles with a nearly $6 million budget shortfall. Longtime city employee Edith Moore was named interim city manager.
Parks was hired in late August after a 3-2 council vote. He earned $100,000 annually, twice what he earned as mayor before voters instead selected Emeka Jackson-Hicks.
Police and firefighter pension funds in East St. Louis are suing the cash-strapped city over millions in missed payments. The city has also laid off police and firefighters.
