(KTRS) – Governor Jay Nixon is ordering state agencies to find any gender pay gaps and take steps to make certain women are paid the same as men for the same work.

The governor spoke at the Women’s Foundation luncheon in Kansas City today. He said some legislation adressing the issue received support this year, but did not make it to his desk. The order calls on state agencies to implement recommendations to address the wage gap.

Nixon is also encouraging private companies to examine their own pay practices.
