( KTRS ) The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a 17-year-old in connection with a recent spate of church burglaries.
According to Sgt. Brian Schellman, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department, the burglaries occurred between November 24 and November 28, at two churches in Crestwood and another two in south county.
Investigators identified the burglarized churches as follows:
November 24 – Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9373 Garber Road
November 27 – Faith Lutheran Church, 6101 Telegraph Road
November 27 – St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, 4900 Ringer Road
November 28 – Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8646 Sappington Road
Schellman said surveillance cameras at one of the churches helped investigators identify the vehicle used to commit the burglaries, which led them to arrest Zachary Witte.
Witte confessed to the burglaries while being questioned, Schellman said.
Prosecutors charged Witte with two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree attempted burglary, two counts of stealing over $500, and one count of second-degree property damage. Witte remains in custody at St. Louis County Jail on $50,000 bond.
