Springfield, IL (KTRS) – Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner issued licenses to companies to run medical marijuana businesses.
A report from the AP states that the governor issued 70 licenses before out-of-state criminal background checks could be performed using an FBI database. The Illinois State Police say the background checks have still not been performed as they await the FBI to approve used of their database.
Rauner’s office says any risk is being overstated because the office can still take action if background checks turn up problems. Illinois law prohibits certain convicted criminals from participating in the potentially lucrative industry.
