The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled Kolten Wong from Triple-A on Friday, optioning out Jeremy Hazelbaker to Memphis.
Wong hit safely in each of his seven games at Memphis since being optioned on June 5th, posting a .429 average with 4 home runs and 11 RBI. Wong played four games at 2B while at Triple-A, but to increase his versatility on a ball club that currently doesn’t have many AB’s available on the infield, he also stared three games in CF.
The timing of this move couldn’t have worked out better for the Cardinals’ promotion department, as tonight is Kolten Wong Hawaiian jersey night at Busch.
After a hot start, Hazelbaker had cooled off as of late. The 28-year old rookie hit .317 in the month of April with 5 home runs. He’s hit just .180 since with 2 home runs, but 23 K’s and just 2 walks.
