JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — President Donald Trump is praising Republican U.S. Senate candidate Josh Hawley during a stop in Missouri.
Trump called Hawley a “special man” while speaking Tuesday at the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kansas City. He said “we need Josh badly,” then called Hawley on stage to speak to the veterans and national television audience.
Hawley said the word that comes to mind when he thinks of Trump is “courage.” He cited Trump’s work to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and his appointment of conservatives to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Hawley is Missouri’s attorney general. He’s trying to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill in a state Trump won by nearly 19 points.
Trump will also speak Tuesday at a fundraising luncheon for Hawley.
