WASHINGTON (AP) – Donald Trump is stepping back from comments he made over the weekend when he claimed to know nothing about former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.
Today, Trump tells NBC’s “Today” that he couldn’t clearly hear the questions posed by CNN host Jake Tapper because he was given a “very bad earpiece.” He also says he denounced Duke on Facebook and Twitter all weekend.
Other candidates have accused Trump of refusing to reject Duke’s endorsement.
Candidate Marco Rubio says, “We cannot be a party who refuses to condemn white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan.”
Ted Cruz tweeted, “You’re better than this. We should all agree, racism is wrong, KKK is abhorrent.”
