WASHINGTON (AP) – Donald Trump is looking more like the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, and that raises questions about how he would keep paying for his campaign.
He has spent about $30 million of his own money so far, he says. A general election could cost far more.
But as nominee, he would get major assistance from the Republican National Committee. He has said he will help raise money for the party, which in turn helps him more.
In the four years since Mitt Romney lost, the party has spent millions of dollars building up its data team and deploying hundreds of on-the-ground employees in states across the country.
Trump has disparaged outside groups and big donors, so it is not yet clear how those entities would factor into the race.
