New Mizzou AD Jim Sterk visits with former AD Mike Alden
If the red carpet wasn’t rolled out, at least the Golden Girls and Truman were in the house to welcome Mizzou’s new Director of Athletics Jim Sterk to the Show-Me-State. A packed house of alumni, university officials and media were on hand for Sterk’s arrival.

Sterk becomes the 20th AD in Mizzou’s history, replacing the brief tenure of Mack Rhoades. The former San Diego St. Aztec wouldn’t go into great detail about all the unrest on campus over the last 9 months, but wanted to make it clear this was a time to start anew.
“It is a new year, a new day, and I have a fresh start. I think it is important to listen and talk to a lot of people,” explained Sterk.
His record at SDSU certainly does speak for itself:
- 4th best combined football and basketball winning % in the nation during his tenure.
- Oversaw significant increase in the SDSU operation budget.
- Member of the NCAA basketball tournament selection committee.
- 2016 NACDA National Athletic Director of the Year
Sterk confirmed that he would more than likely not continue to serve on the NCAA basketball selection committee since the SEC already has representation.
Sterk on previous regime: "I would love to have a Mike Alden type tenure. You're stuck with me. I'm not leaving." #Mizzou

Sterk’s official start date is still a ways away, but he and Barry Odom each confirmed of a meeting happening today to discuss continued upgrades of the football facilities.
