Saint Louis FC suffered a 2-0 loss on the road against Western Conference rival Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC as the team showed signs of their tough May schedule.
The Switchbacks took the lead early, with Martin Maybin zipping past the Saint Louis defense and scoring the first goal of the match in the 3rd minute. This goal marked Maybin’s fifth goal of the season.
The second and final goal of the night followed quickly, after Switchbacks’ Suggs found Miguel Gonzalez who fired a goal past Pais from a tight angle in the 18th minute.
There were a few chances for Saint Louis towards the end of the half, nothing able to connect before the whistle.
Coach Schilly made 3 changes at the half and a 4th by the 55th minute. Herrera, Roberts, Musa and Hardware all came on to see if they can spark the side down by two with Tyler David coming on in the 75th to try to put something on the board. STL FC had most of the possession with a handful of counter chances from the Switchbacks FC. The half ends as a stalemate with the damage being done in the first 20 of the match.
The second half proved to be better for Saint Louis with Jamiel Hardware having an opportunity for a goal after receiving from a Chad Bondcorner kick, only to launch the ball just wide of the post.
Fatigue and altitude may have played a factor for STLFC, after playing three matches within a week and having to travel to higher altitude.
STLFC returns home, with a week of rest, on Saturday, June 11 to face the Tulsa Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, click here or contact an Account Executive at 636.680.0997, tickets@saintlouisfc.com, or visit saintlouisfc.com today!
