ST. LOUIS (KTRS) Residents who live near the West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton are suing several companies and agencies, including Cotter Corporation, Commonwealth Edison and the St. Louis Airport Authority, for damages. The residents are asking the court to compensate them for losses to their health and their property values over the radioactive waste sites that contain materials from the Manhattan Project. The citizens point to studies that conclude the wastes contain carcinogens that have affected their lives and their property.
Plaintiffs include the residents as well as North West Auto Body, which is headlining the suit. Lawyers for the plaintiffs say some radioactive materials were used to build structures that residents unknowingly lived in.
