WASHINGTON (AP) – Political groups are flooding the airways during popular game shows like “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” as they try to influence presidential primary voters.
An Associated Press analysis finds that Republican candidates and groups also appear to be targeting viewers of “The O’Reilly Factor” and other Fox News programs. Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have aired hundreds of spots during shows like “Live with Kelly and Michael” and the “Big Bang Theory.”
The data provide some of the first detailed insights into strategies used by candidates, super PACs and so-called dark money groups. They are expected to surpass spending $100 million on broadcast television spots and plan to spend millions more before voting in Iowa and New Hampshire next month.
