FOX LAKE, Ill. (AP) – Police personnel records show an Illinois officer who staged his suicide to make it look like he was murdered had a troubled job history.
Among the issues raised in Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz’s records, released late Thursday by the Village of Fox Lake, are suspensions, sexual harassment allegations and complaints that he intimidated an emergency dispatcher with guns.
The release of the records came after authorities said a day earlier they believe Gliniewicz killed himself on Sept. 1 because his theft of thousands of dollars from a youth program he oversaw was about to be exposed.
The image of Gliniewicz that’s emerged in recent days stands in stark contrast to the hero’s funeral and outpouring of community support after his death in September.
