The St. Louis Cardinals announced this afternoon that shortstop Delvin Perez had signed his professional contract. Perez becomes the second of three first round picks to sign on the dotted line.
The 17-year old out of Puerto Rico was the 23rd overall player selected in last week’s First Year Player draft, but many experts projected him as a potential Top 5 pick. Perez saw his stock drop when he tested positive for a performance enhancing drug.
The Cardinals now have 23 of their 42 picks signed, and have until July 15th at 4pm to sign their remaining draft selections.
