HOUSTON (AP) – The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles is granting parole for the only man still serving time in the 1991 gay-bashing death of a Houston banker.
Jon Buice was one of 10 youths arrested in the beating and stabbing death of Paul Broussard. Buice pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
The board announced in a statement Monday that it voted to allow Buice’s parole for several reasons, including that he has had no major disciplinary incidents since his last review.
The now-41-year-old Buice was 17 years old when the killing occurred.
Buice is being held in a prison south of Houston. A timetable for his release was not immediately known.
The board granted him parole in 2011 then reversed its decision.
