St. Louis, MO (KTRS) A new phone scam is targeting area residents.

City leaders are warning citizens about phone calls in which a scammer is trying to charge a fine for missing jury duty. The man is identifying himself as the sheriff, calling on behalf of the jury supervisor’s office. He is using the threat of arrest in an effort to secure prepaid debit cards.

Officials have received dozens of complaints regarding the scam so far.
