ST. LOUIS (AP) — A St. Louis County man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a guard at a light rail station. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday that 36-year-old Nathaniel Maurice Smith III of Berkeley also was charged with armed criminal action. James Cook was shot Sunday at MetroLink’s Delmar Loop station in the city of St. Louis. Detective Lila Payne says in court records that Smith approached Cook, pulled a gun and shot him multiple times. Payne says an eyewitness identified Smith as the gunman. Cook, who worked for a private security firm hired by MetroLink, was a Marine veteran with a wife and two children.
