ST. LOUIS (KTRS) Missouri transportation officials say their crews will be out ahead of the winter storm forecast this Sunday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), freezing rain and ice are expected all day Sunday.
MODOT notes the ground and roads are frozen thanks to two weeks of subfreezing temperatures, and they say this could lead to additional icing on area roadways. MoDOT crews are planning to be fully staffed with more than 200 plow trucks ready to go from 7 a.m. Sunday into Monday afternoon.
The subfreezing temperatures continue to cause water main breaks across the bi-state region. Illinois American Water has lifted a boil water order for customers in the Metro-East area near St. Louis that has been in effect since Wednesday following a water main break. However, all City of O’Fallon water customers, including those in O’Fallon and Fairview Heights, are still under a boil order until further notice. The boil order will remain in effect until the results of water tests are complete.
