POCAHONTAS, ILL (KTRS) The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a fire Wednesday that killed a 4-year-old girl was killed and injured five of her family members in Pocahontas, Illinois, about 40 miles northeast of St. Louis.
The EMS chief in nearby Highland, Brian Wilson, said 15-month-old twin girls, a 12-year-old boy and the children’s parents all were injured. They were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Chief Wilson says the death of the four-year-old girl is tragic and takes a toll on everyone involved, including his department.
Highland fire officials say the family was trapped on the home’s second story and escaped through a window onto the first-floor roof. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
