DACULA, Ga. (AP) – A Georgia police officer says gunshots were fired from a passing vehicle as he sat in his parked patrol car, the second such shooting in metro Atlanta in a 10-day span. The officer wasn’t hurt.
The shootings come as police nationwide are on edge after a total of eight officers were slain in separate recent attacks in Dallas, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
In Georgia, Gwinnett County Officer Joey Sanders said in a police report he heard three gunshots when a vehicle passed his squad car early Monday. Sanders said a witness in a nearby parked car also heard the three shots and believes they came from a small passenger car.
An officer about 25 miles away in Roswell, Georgia, reported a similar shooting July 8. He wasn’t injured.
