( KTRS ) Ferguson residents are getting their say on a settlement city leaders negotiated with the U.S. Department of Justice that calls for sweeping changes to police practices.
The first public meeting on the proposed consent decree will be Tuesday night at 7pm, at the Ferguson city hall, a second comment session is scheduled for Saturday and and a 3rd on Feb. 9, when the city council could approve the agreement.
The changes come after 18 yr old Michael Brown, who was unarmed, was fatally shot by then Ferguson officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, 2014. Wilson was not prosecuted, but the shooting led to an outpouring of concern about police and the town’s municipal court system, leading to a critical Justice Department report.
