Kenneth J. Woltering of Carlyle was pronounced dead at the scene of Friday’s accident. St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye says an autopsy will be performed Saturday.
Dye said Woltering was underneath the dumpster putting primer on it when the accident occurred. He said it appears the jack supporting the dumpster fell.
East St. Louis Patrolman Andre Henson said the company where the accident occurred makes and paints dumpsters. He confirmed the man was working on a container that was lifted so it could be painted underneath.
Employees told police the container likely weighs more than 15,000 pounds.
