St. Louis, MO (KTRS) The return of the frigid temperatures has the city of St. Louis’ winter shelter and outreach operations back in effect.
The stepped up efforts for the homeless will remain in effect through Tuesday. If the the severe weather persists, winter shelter and operations will be extended, according to city officials.
Exposure to cold can cause frostbite or hypothermia and become life threatening. A wind chill of
-20° F with light winds will cause frostbite in just 30 minutes. Hyperthermia is a condition
brought on when the body temperature drops to less than 95°F, and it can kill. If you see an
individual who is struggling with the cold temperatures, please call 911 to receive immediate
medical attention.
