Matt Carpenter is out of the Cardinals’ line-up on Sunday, a day after exiting Saturday night’s game early. Mike Matheny said after Saturday night’s loss to the Braves that Carpenter just didn’t “look right.”
Carpenter was activated off the 15-day disabled list on Friday after missing 24 games with an oblique strain.
“That particular injury is tough to get past the trust factor,” explained Matheny. “I think we are always ultra on alert, that he doesn’t go backwards. If we see something that doesn’t look quite right, that we make a move to try and get ahead of it.”
Kolten Wong is at second base today, and in Carpenter’s customary lead-off spot.
Cardinals open today tied with the Miami Marlins for the 2nd wild card spot in the National League.
