News and Notes-Matt Carpenter starts for the second time this season at first base. Ruben Tejada gets a start at third base with the lefty on the mound, but it’s the start for Carpenter that I think could actually become more of a trend. Once Jhonny Peralta returns, Mike Matheny will need to insert him to the starting SS role immediately, but you can’t sit Aledmys Diaz, and you can’t bury Kolten Wong. The solution: Diaz and 3B, Wong stays at 2B, and Carpenter mans the 1B. This is actually just the first cog in what would continue be an ever changing line-up for Matheny, but more on that when Peralta is actually activated. Speaking of Carpenter, his 6 RBI last night were a single game career high. The most ever for a Cardinal lead-off hitter since Shawon Dunston in 2000. Stephen Piscotty mans the clean-up spot for just the fifth time this season. Piscotty’s .898 OPS from that spot in the line-up is actually 55 points lower than when he bats 2nd, two points lower than when he hits 3rd. The Cardinals have a chance to go 4-games above .500 tonight with a win, that would be a season high.
