ST. LOUIS (AP) – St. Louis Cardinals All-Star second baseman Matt Carpenter left a game Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a right oblique injury.
Carpenter swung awkwardly at a pitch from Jeff Locke in the bottom of the third inning. He immediately grabbed his right hip and was replaced by Kolten Wong.
Carpenter, who was recently named to his third All-Star Game, is hitting .298 with 14 home runs and a team-high 53 RBIs.
Carpenter was to be sent for tests Wednesday night.
