Alton, IL (KTRS) Parts of Alton are under a boil order following a water main break.

Illinois American Water says the order was issued following a break in a 12 inch main in the 200 block of State Street.

Residents are advised to boil their water for 5 minutes before consumption. The water is okay for bathing and washing. The boil order is expected to last for 48 hours.
