St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC fell 1-2 to the Harrisburg City Islanders in front of 4,133 at Toyota Stadium in Week 25 of the USL regular season. The team will face Orlando City B back home at Toyota Stadium on September 16th with kickoff at 7:30 pm CT.
Harrisburg opened the scoring through former STLFC player Jake Bond in the 32nd minute. Saint Louis FC was able to equalize in the 70th minute with Christian Volesky’s sixth goal of the season before Harrisburg stole the points in stoppage time through Pedro Ribeiro. The result sees Saint Louis FC remain in 11th place in the Eastern Conference on 31 points while Harrisburg remains in 13th place on 27 points.
The first half saw Saint Louis FC dominate possession and have numerous chances from set piece situations as Ryan Howe played in the service from free kicks and corners. However, it would be Harrisburg that scored first as Bond was found at the back post from a Frederick Opoku cross from a quick counter attack. Saint Louis FC looked for the answer before the break as Harrisburg goalkeeper Sean Lewis made a diving save to deny Mats Bjurman in the 39th minute and Ivan Mirkovic narrowly missed with an effort outside the box.
The second half was a more physical battle with a number of fouls and yellow cards marring the contest. Saint Louis FC would have a great chance to equalize in the 65th minute as substitute Seth Rudolph was found at the back post but had his header cleared off the goal line. STLFC would make the breakthrough in the 70th minute as substitute Tyler Feeley, making his home debut, thought quickly to play a free kick behind the defense for Volesky to slot past the goalkeeper. Harrisburg would get the winner in the 93rd minute as Bond flicked on a corner kick for Ribeiro to finish to steal all three points in stoppage time.
