Alex Pietrangelo scored the decisive tally for the Blues in their 2-1 exhibition finale winner over the Blackhawks at the Scottrade Center.
Vladimir Tarasenko got his second goal of the preseason in the first period for the Blues. Carter Hutton stopped 11 of 12 shots in two periods for St. Louis, and Jake Allen stopped all six shots he faced.
Allen, exited the game after one period with a left leg injury. Head Coach Ken Hitchcock didn’t have an update on his starting goaltender as of late Saturday night.
“I haven’t had a report, we’ll let you either tomorrow or Monday. Nobody’s said anything yet, so I don’t know.”
It opens the door for Hutton to possibly be the guy on Wednesday for the regular season opener in Chicago. It’s a move that Hitchcock would be on-board with.
“He’s been the best player in camp. He’s been outstanding since he put on the pads here. He’s been great in practice, he’s been great in the games. He’s just been outstanding. Best player.”
The 30-year old career back-up feels good if he needs to be called up.
“I think they have all the confidence in me. I’ve been through these situations before. That’s why they went out and got me.”
