CUBA, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri home where a racial slur was recently spray-painted on a wall has been destroyed by fire, prompting state and local investigations.
The fire broke out Saturday near Cuba, Missouri, about 85 miles southwest of St. Louis. The family was out of town at the time.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department says in a news release on Monday that deputies responded two weeks ago to the same home after someone painted a racial slur on the brick structure.
The sheriff’s office and the Missouri fire marshal are investigating.
The news release did not include information about the racial makeup of the family. A message seeking comment was not immediately returned.
A Facebook-based fundraiser to benefit the family has raised $3,700 as of Monday afternoon.
