St. Louis County, MO  (KTRS)  Police say the deaths of a man and a woman in west county following a stand off are being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of relatives and autopsy results.

Two people are dead following a police stand off at a west St. Louis County home.

Police say officers were called for a welfare check at a residence at a home in the 1400 block of Orchard Lakes, in unincorporated St. Louis County near Creve Coeur, around 11 p.m. Saturday. Police left after being unsuccessful in locating anyone at the home. Police were called back to the home around 15 minutes later. That’s when officers looked through a window and saw a man walking near the rear of the house.

While officers were trying to get the man’s attention, they heard one gunshot come from inside the residence. Officers backed off the house and set up containment.

At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, the Tactical Operations Unit made entry into the residence and found the bodies of a man and a woman. The names of the victims haven’t been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
