South Roxana, IL  (KTRS)  The cause of a fiery crash that killed a driver and injured a police officer in the metro-east is under investigation.

Investigators say a pick up truck driver crashed head on with a Pontoon Beach police cruiser on Route 111near New Poag Road in South Roxana at about just after 8:00 a.m. Thursday. The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 33-year-old Daniel E. Bell of South Roxana.

The officer was flown by medical helicopter to an area local hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
