St. Louis County, MO (KTRS) St. Louis County Police are now ensured that funds generated from Proposition P will go for law enforcement purposes.
On Tuesday morning, St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger signed the Proposition P Accountability bill during a news conference at the North County Police Precinct. The St. Louis County Council passed the bill, sponsored by Councilman Mark Harder, on October 3rd.
“Transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of public trust in government,” Stenger said. “In St. Louis County government, Prop P’s dedicated law enforcement revenue stream will clearly flow through the online accountability portal I established when I took office in 2015.” The portal allows residents to track, in real time, all expenditures of County government.
“We promised voters that the Prop P money will be used only for law enforcement and public safety and it will,” Stenger added.
Stenger and other supporters hope county municipalities follow suit with this effort.
At issue, is some municipalities want to use the revenue in other areas such as road improvements and snow removal which they claim will contribute to public safety.
Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Council is expected to take a measure on pay raises for St. Louis County Police during Tuesday night’s meeting.
