St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC were left frustrated with a 2-2 draw against FC Cincinnati in front of 4,376 at Toyota Stadium in Week 29 of the USL regular season.
Saint Louis FC opened the scoring in the 42nd minute through Seth Rudolph and doubled the lead after the break in the 59th minute through Christian Volesky. Cincinnati would answer with a goal in the 70th minute from Corben Bone before leveling with the final kick of the game in stoppage time with a Danni Konig penalty conversion.
The first half started positively for the home side with a majority of the possession and goal scoring chances. The first chance came in the 4th minute as Mats Bjurman created some space and laid the ball off for Ivan Mirkovic but the shot flashed over the crossbar. In the 24th minute, Wes Charpie put a quality cross in the box but Volesky’s header went just wide. Saint Louis FC would find the breakthrough in the 42nd minute as Rudolph stormed up the middle and unleashed a rocket into the top right corner from the right side of the box. STLFC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick would then preserve the lead just before halftime with a great save as the home side played a man down with an injury to defender Ryan Howe.
The second half started positively for Saint Louis as a penalty was called on Cincinnati for a handball in the box. Volesky would step up to bury the penalty kick in the 59th minute for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Cincinnati would respond in the 70th minute with a goal from Bone after a quick corner kick that caught the home side sleeping. Controversy would then ensue as Cincinnati was awarded a penalty with seconds remaining in added time after Gorrick was adjudged to have fouled McLaughlin in the box. Konig would convert the penalty to keep honors even at the final whistle.
The result sees Saint Louis FC move into 10th place in the Eastern Conference on 35 points with only three games left to play. FC Cincinnati remains in 6th place in the Eastern Conference on 40 points.
