Crews have been working to transform Busch Stadium from a baseball venue–to a–concert venue for Billy Joel’s only Missouri appearance tonight. In light of nearly a week of continuous protests, organizers have stepped up meeting with police.
It’s not unusual for Busch Stadium officials to meet with police before special events but Vice President of Event Services for Busch Stadium Vicki Bryant admits that there has been more interaction this time.
Bryant wants fans to know that numerous security plans are in place for tonight. Additionally, St. Louis Cardinals spokesman Ron Waterman said Tuesday-quote- “Our security team has been in frequent communication with law enforcement to ensure we take every step necessary to assure the safety of concertgoers.”
Demonstrators unhappy with a judge’s ruling acquitting a white police officer in the shooting death of a black drug dealer suspect promised to cause economic disruption. They’ve been successful as two other high profile concerts, U-2 and Ed Sheeran, were cancelled.
Busch Stadium’s Bryant advises Billy Joel fans to arrive early as Joel has no opening act and security may slow entrance. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 8pm.
