ST. LOUIS (KTRS) The Illinois National Guard says it’s sending seven airmen and a C-130 cargo plane to help with recovery efforts in Texas. The guard says the members of the 182nd Airlift Wing leave Peoria on Thursday for Dallas and are expected to help with storm relief and recovery for the next three to four days. Hurricane Harvey has weakened and its floodwaters are dropping in much of the Houston area, but the death toll from the storm is rising.
The Red Cross of Eastern Missouri says 62 volunteers and seven emergency response vehicles (ERVs) are assigned to help with the Hurricane Harvey recovery. The Red Cross is holding orientation sessions across the state for volunteers.
Other local companies are pitching in to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. Ameren has released 135 of its contract workers to help with power restoration work in Texas and has donated 25-thousand dollars to the Red Cross. Earlier this week, Anheuser-Busch shifted its brewery operations to send drinking water to Texas.
