St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC earned a 0-0 draw against the Rochester Rhinos in front of 4,634 at Toyota Stadium in the rescheduled Week 7 USL Regular Season match.
The game was evenly contested with both goalkeepers making dramatic saves to keep the honors even in this critical Eastern Conference match. The point moves Saint Louis FC to 12th in the conference while Rochester moves into the playoff positions in 8th place with both teams having played 14 games.
The first half started as a back-and-forth affair with few chances for either side. In the 13th minute, STLFC goalkeeper Adam Grinwis made a save on an effort from Raymond Lee before STLFC countered with a through ball for Christian Volesky that was collected by St. Louis native and Rochester goalkeeper Tomas Gomez. The last significant action of the half came in the 44th minute as Kenardo Forbes took a free kick from 35 yards out that almost found the top corner before being palmed away by Grinwis.
The second half saw Saint Louis FC press with more urgency in the attack which nearly paid dividends in the 60th minute as Volesky was played through on goal, only to be taken down by Lee who collected the yellow card. Volesky almost got his revenge in the 72nd minute as he was found in the six-yard box by Guzman but had his first-time shot parried by Gomez. Rochester then had the best chances to take all three points for the remainder of the game, first in the 73rd minute as Wal Fall pirouetted in the box to find himself clear but his shot was spectacularly saved by Grinwis. Rochester then had another chance in the 89th minute as Jochen Graf found himself with an open net but missed high. The game would finish 0-0 in a result that might have disappointed both coaching staffs but accurately reflected the efforts on the field.
