(KTRS) – St. Louis is the front-runner of 10 markets competing to be one of four Major Leagues Soccer expansion teams in 2020.
But SC STL, the group trying to bring soccer to the city is asking for public money to help establish the expansion team. Governor-elect Eric Greitens took to Facebook to opposed the use of public funds as part of the the plan. Greitens called it “welfare for millionaires.”
SC STL is asking for $40 million is state tax credits and $80 million from local taxpayers–that chunk of money must be approved by a public vote in April.
