It seems like the Cardinals have been playing a game of musical chairs between St. Louis, Memphis, and disabled list as of late. Today, the music stopped for Jhonny Peralta, as he makes his 2nd trip to the D.L. this season with a ligament strain in his left thumb. It’s the same thumb Peralta had surgery on back in spring.
The Cardinals also designate catcher Michael McKenry for assignment, and recall outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker right-handed pitcher Miguel Socolovich.
Hazelbaker starred in the early going of the season, posting 7 home runs, and 19 RBI in 61 games. During his time down at Memphis, the lefty hit .325 with an OPS of .913.
Socolovich was 2-5 down in Memphis, with an ERA of 2.79. He adds another right-handed arm to a bullpen that has been scuffling ever since Trevor Rosenthal’s demotion from the closer’s role.
