BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is granting more time for public comment on a preliminary decision to build a $1.6 billion headquarters in Missouri instead of Illinois.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports agency director Robert Cardillo announced Friday that people now have until May 2nd to weigh in on the project that is tentatively slated for St. Louis.

That gives officials in Illinois some extra time to try and steer the project to a site near Scott Air Force Base in St. Clair County.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence uses satellite imagery to make maps and other data tools for military and intelligence agencies. The new headquarters is expected to create 3,100 jobs.
